Christmas Trip Airtickets Confirmed!

Yup!  Reko’s mom had just confirmed the reservations of our Christmas trip airtickets!  So yeah, the two “major” vacations for this year have been confirmed!  Both trips are to Finland, of course.  XD

In June, we’ll be heading to Reko’s summer cottage to experience their Midsummer’s Festival, with big bonfires and stuff @_@  Sounds cool.  XD  We will transit in Osaka on the way to Helsinki, and then at Nagoya on the way back.  It’ll be SQ -> AY (Finnair), then AY-> SQ.  Reko knows I had wanted to fly on SQ since… forever, so he specially requested his mom to book SQ flights whenever possible.  =D

In December, we’ll be heading to Rovaniemi, the “heart” of Lapland, where Santa Claus resides!  Well, we’ll be first celebrating Christmas at his place, complete with a real Christmas tree and decos, ham, home-baked Christmas cakes, etcetc… then after Christmas, we will head to Rovaniemi to visit Santa Claus!  Well, there’s 12 days of Christmas, isn’t it?  So it’s still not too late, even though it’s “after” Christmas Day already!  I’ll be spending my New Year there as well, and only flying back on the 1st Jan 2010.

Aaaaahhhh… can’t wait for the summer trip to come first!!  I desperately need a holiday…

Babycare Exhibition

It’s crazy. There’s just so many people trying to move around in such a small exhibition hall.

I would say it’s worse than I.T. fair because you’ll have to be very careful with all the pregnant ladies, baby strollers and young kids running around you. Er, its the kids who are doing the running, that is.

Managed to help my sis subscribe to a baby mag. Not too expensive, and it comes with a Lego hamper. No, it didn’t have Lego toys, but it has a kid’s cutlery set, a Lego t-shirt and cap.

On my way to my sis’ place now. It’s nice to be able to blog online while on the go. XD

My New Toy (Part 2)

Okay, so blogging on my new toy is quite a chore, as pop-ups and zoom-ins are not centered automatically.  Normal posting is just fine, but there seems to be some problems when I try to upload photos.

Oh well, guess its just Flickr or Ovi for mobile uploads in the future.  XD

I’m still trying to get used to the landscape full QWERTY keyboard for SMS.  My fingers are pretty fat and chubby, so I kept pressing the wrong keys all the time.  :D  Nevertheless, it’s just something that I need to get used to, and if all else fails, there’s always the stylus which is tucked away snugly at the back of the phone.  Of course, the handwriting recognition feature works very well too, and no matter how ugly my chinese characters are written on the screen, the phone just seems to know what I’m writing.  :D

On top of everything, the phone was surprising fast in responding to all the touches and pokes.  Google Maps, an external app, was surprisingly accurate and loads almost 10x faster compared to the uber slow loading on my iPod Touch.

One feature where my 5800 XpressMusic wins iPhone is that… my toy supports Flash.  I can load websites with Flash with no problems at all.  :P  And the Youtube videos seem to load faster, with better picture and audio quality, compared to the same videos I watched with my iPod Touch.  I’ve tried both over my home broadband WLAN, so the connection speed should be the same for both.  Anyway, yay for me, as I can watch my Jam variety show videos as well as the Taiwanese drama videos on the go.  (Let’s just hope I won’t download more than 50GB per month, yeah?  =x)

Of course there’s the problem which everyone was talking about – “one tap or double tap?” issue.  I did noticed it, but it’s not too much of a problem.  If one tap doesn’t get things done, then double tap.  What’s the big deal o_O?  I’m sure after using a certain function for a long period of time, you’ll instinctively know whether to tap once or double tap it for it to work.

Now I’m gonna try my hands on the Comes With Music service.  I don’t think it can compare with iTunes, but… at least I’ll just try it out and see how it works.

My New Toy

Posting this from my new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone now. Just trying out the mobile surfing and picture uploading function.
I’ll post a proper post from my computer later. XD

Baby-Phobia…

Is there any medical names for baby phobia?  I realise that I’m really afraid of babies.

The nurse wheeled in the baby today when I was at the hospital, accompanying my sis while Kelvin went back home to clean up the baby cot and stuff.  First, the baby stared at me from across the bed.  Then I stared back.  And he just kept staring at me, without blinking, even.  I got a little unnerved, and started pacing around the room.  Then unconsciously, I walked over to his little plastic “bed-on-wheels”, and peered at him.

Okay, I know what happened next was probably not because of me, but it didn’t help to know that I’ve always caused babies to cry by just being near.

Dylan suddenly started coughing, and started to fidget quite a lot.  Then he opened his mouth and he sure sounded like he was choking.  I was scared out of my wits.  Then he started crying.  Those kind of helpless cries, not wilful ones.  Basically I was totally spooked and just… don’t know what to do.  My sis struggled to get up from her bed to carry him, but I was too uh, “out of it” to help her.  She managed to scoop Dylan into her arms and coo-ed to him, but he just continued crying.  So poor thing!

So I was like, uh want me to press the emergency button???  My sis said yeah.  Then I went around like a crazy woman trying to locate the where the hell the emergency button was.  I recalled it’s usually hung around the bed, but for some reason I just couldn’t find it.  Finally, I found it hanging next to the wall instead.  So I pressed the button, and waited for the nurse to come in.  Dylan was still crying pretty helplessly, and started to pant.  Like, breathless, you know?

So I panicked again, and paced around the ward, wondering what took the nurses so long.  Then I asked my sis, “Should I go out and ask them to come in???”  Then my sis was like, yeah you could.  Then I ran out of the ward, trying to get the nurses’ attention.  They told me that yeah, they were on their way.  Then when I get back into the room, the baby had calmed down somewhat.  (Maybe it’s because I had left the room?)

My sis then explained that Dylan had a lot of mucus in his throat, so it might be the reason why he was choking a bit as his body naturally tried to get rid of it.  Well, that might be the reason, but it didn’t help that he only started crying when I peered at him over his secure plastic bed.  >_>;

Gah, I hence conclude that I’m not a baby-person, and I’m just not comfortable with babies and vice versa.

Took a photo of him today, and got my sis to send me another photo which my bro-in-law had taken yesterday.  Here’s Dylan for you!

Dylan, just after his meal.

Say ‘hello’!

I’ve Been Promoted… In Life.

Yup.  I’m an Aunt now.  :D

My sis had given birth to a healthy 2.86kg baby boy, whom they’d decided to name Dylan, at Mount Elizabeth at noon (estimated) on 21 Feb 2009.

Happy (belated!) Birthday, Dylan!

Babies look so agonisingly small and fragile… I didn’t even dare to touch Dylan when the nurse brought him into the ward for his first breastfeed.  But I can safely say that he’s an energetic one… While Reko and I were spying on him through the windows of the nursery, he was sleeping (I think), but he kept stretching and kicking.  o_O  Yeah, it’s very obvious that he was kicking coz the end of his blanket flew up every few seconds or so for the five minutes that we stood there.  XD

Well, no photos of Dylan yet for now, as my sis was not feeling that well after the ordeal, so the baby was kept in the nursery most of the times, except for that one time when my sis breastfed him.  I didn’t really look as I thought it’s quite a private moment for her and Kelvin.

Even though it’s amazing how a new life is brought to the world, I can never see myself holding a newborn, much less carrying one inside me for nine months.  I’m never a baby-person.  I get chills just looking at the tiny creature.  I mean, I feel fine when I’m looking at Dylan through the windows, but when he’s right there in front of me, I got the chills.  Don’t ask me why.  >_>;;

Reko wasn’t quite enthusiastic about babies either, but he went to the hospital with me anyway to visit my sis.  He even sat in the darkness silently with me, as we stayed in my sis’ ward to keep her “company” while she slept.  I felt a little bad and guilty as he kinda wasted almost half a day there, not understanding much of our conversation (as my sis and I are used to converse in Mandarin), and didn’t have the chance to talk much with me, except during dinner and on the way home.  :(

Well in any way, my sis and bro-in-law definitely appreciated his presence, and I’m glad he’s with me there at the hospital.  Thanks, dear.  ^_^

Ahh, I should sleep early.  Need to go to the hospital again later in a few hours time!  Let’s hope I’ll be able to take some photos of baby Dylan.  :D
